Hiroshi Senju (b.1958), Japan

Waterfall, 2009

Painting, Natural pigments on paper, 130.2x161.9cm , 2009
Location:  Six Battery Road Level 1, Singapore

This is one of three monochrome waterfall paintings specially acquired for 6 Battery Road, to give a distinct visual quality to each of the three 1st storey lift lobbies. Senju created these drawings using traditional materials – rice paper and mineral pigments which he made himself. The creative processes involve pouring wet paint along the top of the paper, allowing it to flow down naturally, leaving behind beautiful traces. Then, using an airbrush Senju skillfully creates a misty effect at the foot of the falls. These paintings, together with an enormous green wall and an onyx wall, bring nature into the interior of the premium office building.
