Ling Yang Chang (b.1963), Singapore

Pink Lotus_1696

Painting, Acrylic and ink on paper, 96x90cm , 2013
Location:  Urban Suites, Singapore

This is one of two paintings of Lim, with the lotus in full bloom as the subject, acquired for Urban Suites. Lim uses traditional Chinese painting method and materials for these works, and yet giving them a western feel through the use of bright colours interspersed with black and shades of grey. Note his energetic brushstrokes which convey much vibrancy.

Artist’s Biography

Ling Yang Chang, having graduated from Chinese studies and Economics from National University of Singapore, finds a natural affinity for Chinese brush painting which he approaches like a Chinese traditional scholar. In line with this, Ling carves his own seals and appends calligraphic writings to his paintings. He balances both Chinese and Western influence in his works. Ling has won many awards and commendations including a certificate of commendation in the 1996 UOB Painting of the Year and the first prize in the 2011 Dr Tan Tsze Chor Art Award.
