Wong Keen (b.1942), Singapore

A Good View, 2011

Painting, Acrylic on canvas, 122x219cm , 2011
Location:  Urban Suites, Singapore

This is one of five paintings of Wong specially commissioned for Urban Resort and Urban Suites. The subject is the lotus, evocative of the tranquility of the lush landscape and reflective water surfaces of these developments. The artist adopts a green and yellow palette, using solid blocks of different shades of these colours to depict the lotus leaves and perhaps the ponds. In some works there are traces of red, hinting at the bud or the faded blossom. These paintings are almost abstract and western in media and technique, yet there is an eastern sensibility in their composition.
