La Conversation

Sculpture, Bronze with patina and polish, 92x75x55cm , 2008
Artist:  Etienne (b.1952), France
Location:  CapitaHub, Capital Tower Level 30, Singapore

As its title suggests, La Conversation shows two men talking. Many parts of their bodies are ‘missing’, requiring the viewers to complete them in their minds. Their “heads” are mere masks – something that we might all wear even when we engage ourselves in ‘intimate’ conservations. The colour is subtle: nuances of brown caused by the interaction between acid and flame in the process of patination, contrasting beautifully with the highly polished and shiny bits.

Artist’s Biography

Etienne has a degree in plastic arts. His works are exhibited internationally and collected by private collectors, institutions, and corporations. He worked with marble, stone and wood initially, but soon opted for bronze, which he felt allowed him to deal with solids and hollows better. Etienne’s works strike an organic balance between mass and space.
