Bedok Residences

i Flap Not Glide

Sculpture, Painted aluminum, 80x120x80cm , 2014
Artist:  Edwin Cheong (b.1973), Singapore
Location:  Bedok Residences Level 1, Singapore

These seven birds of no particular species are the creation of local artist Edwin Cheong, who was trained in architecture.  The birds surely look good with their fanciful wings, but all that they can do is to flap their wings, not glide.  Can’t aesthetics and functionality co-exist?

Artist’s Biography

Edwin Cheong graduated from National University of Singapore with a Master Degree in Architecture. His artworks are installed in Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, UK and USA. Cheong was commissioned in 2010 to create a commemorative sculpture for the 1st Youth Olympic Games which was held in Singapore.
