The Interlace

The Obvious

Painting, Oil on linen, 141x121cm , 2013
Artist:  Devaki (b.1972), Singapore

Location:  The Interlace, Singapore

This is one of two paintings by Devaki acquired for The Interlace. The Obvious features flowers and bamboo, popular subjects in traditional Chinese painting, in a different medium: oil on linen instead of ink on paper. The painting also offers a fresh interpretation in that the large expanse of red gives it a somewhat abstract feel. Despite these, the work is still evocative of a Chinese painting, perhaps because of liu bai or the “leaving of white space”.

Devaki’s artworks are collected by museums, corporations and individuals.
