This work, created by local sculptor Kumari Nahappan, is a part of her Song and Dance series, a theatrical showcase of chillies with each piece exuding its individual personality and emotion. Here, the red hot chilli is doing the twist, a dance highly popular in the late 1950s and the early 1960s.

Artist’s Biography

Kumari Nahappan was trained in interior design in Willesden College of Technology and pursued a successful interior design career, before studying fine arts at LASALLE College of the Arts. She holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from RMIT University. Her artworks have been exhibited in Asia, Europe, and the USA. Kumari has received many accolades including the 2011 Sculpture of the Year at Shanghai Art Fair.
