Capital Tower

Big Dream No. 4

Sculpture, Stainless steel, 182x238x251cm
Artist:  Gao Xiaowu (b.1976), China

Location:  Capital Tower Level 2, Singapore

From far this sculpture looks like a balloon-shaped baby with a broad grin, but on closer examination it is an adult male dressed in suit and tie.  The person is flying but he has only a pair of tiny wings. How far will he go?  Gao uses this artwork to spur us to think about the many big dreams of city folks and the realisation of these dreams. You and I are reflected in the highly polished body of the work, and with that, our dreams too.

Artist’s Biography

Gao Xiaowu studied sculpture in Xiamen Art Academy and Central Academy of Fine Arts. His signature tongue-in-cheek sculptures examining urban aspirations and ideals, inspired by his observation of China’s rapid social transformation, have earned him attention, commendations and international recognition.
