Ascott Raffles Place Singapore

Singapore Memoir

Collage, 90x90cm , 2008
Artist:  Ketna Patel (b.1968), Uganda - United Kingdom
Location:  Ascott Raffles Place Singapore Level 2, Singapore

One of two works of Patel specially acquired for Ascott Raffles Place Singapore, Singapore Memoir reinforces the sense of history of this heritage building. The artist combined many images on a grid panel, which was then lacquered over to produce a mixed media artwork of vivid colours. Seen here are household utensils, movie stars, product labels, and even glazed wall tiles and tessellated floor tiles - all reminiscent of a bygone era . The artist has given us a clue to that era: a huge number “60” in bold brushstroke underneath the collage of images hints of the 1960s.
