Ascott Raffles Place Singapore

Sites in the City 01

Painting, Ink on paper, 167x137cm (210x180cm)
Artist:  Hong Sek Chern (b.1967), Singapore

Location:  Ascott Raffles Place Singapore Level 2, Singapore

Hong used traditional Chinese ink and brush technique to execute this contemporary work of building sites in a modern city.  Predominated by line and grids from multiple viewpoints, it juxtaposes fragments of infrastructure to form a unique composite. The colour palette, mainly sepia with a touch of ochre, is subtle and the brush strokes definite.  All these make this work one of the very special creations of the Chinese ink-on-paper genre.
